Leather Ottoman – Royal Blue filled
This leather ottoman in royal blue with matching braid was hand-made in Marrakech, Morocco. This pouffe comes filled.
The leather ottomans (sometimes called pouffes) are made using traditional techniques.
The first part of the process is the tanning and dying of the leather. Going to a tannery in Morocco is quite an experience. If you visit Morocco, we definitely recommend visiting the tanneries – either Fes or Marrakech. Be sure to take that sprig of mint they may offer you – it will come in handy. Much of the tanning process uses traditional natural techniques and materials, such as pigeon droppings. To see more about the tanneries, have a look at this video.
There seem to be strict gender roles in the making of leather ottomans or pouffes. Women do the embroidery and make the braid, whereas the men cut the leather and stitch the ottomans together.
You can buy our royal blue coloured leather ottoman or pouffe filled or unfilled. The filling for our ottomans is flock, commonly used by upholsterers. The flock is made from recycled materials and the ottomans are well filled and therefore keep their shape well. A filled ottoman will weigh between 7 and 9 kgs.
If you wish to fill the royal blue leather ottoman yourself, you can fill it with newspaper, old clothes or bean bag filling. There is a zip on the underside to make the ottoman/pouffe easy to fill.
Please note this royal blue leather ottoman is handmade so there may be some small variation in size and design.
The ottoman can be used as a footrest, a seat or table. Why not mix and match some different colours and group them around one of our hand-painted tables.
This genuine Moroccan leather ottoman measures approximately 50cm in diameter and 35cm high when filled.
