Khamsa

This khamsa was hand made in embossed metal in Fes Morocco.

The khamsa is ‘popular throughout the Middle East and North Africa and commonly used in jewellery and wall hangings. Depicting the open right hand, an image recognised and used as a sign of protection in many times throughout history, the hamsa is believed to provide defense against the evil eye.’ (Reference Wikipedia)

Hamsa is also the word in Arabic for the number ‘five’ and also for the five fingers of the hand. The hamsa is used to protect against the evil eye, a malicious stare believed to be able to cause illness , death or general unluckiness. The khamsa is said to protect you from these curses. Raising your right hand with the palm showing and the fingers slightly apart is meant to blind the agressor. Hang a hamsa in your home, and you will protect yourself and your family from such curses.

It measures 13.5cm in length and 10cm in width. It has a ring on the top so you can hang it on the wall.
