Metroscope October 2008 Newsletter

Our latest container from Morocco is finally here!

It always seems like such a long wait from the time we go to Morocco and place our orders to the time the container arrives here in Melbourne. Almost everything we import is made to order for us, so that accounts for some of the wait. And then of course everything needs to be brought to a central point and the container packed. Many thanks to Nabil and Mounir in Morocco for organising this for us. Once packed, the container starts the long voyage to Melbourne, from Marrakech by road to Casablanca, Casablanca to Valencia in Spain, and then by various routes to Melbourne.

We’ve spent the last few days unloading, unpacking and sorting – hard work but very exciting to see everything at last. We are always delighted with the beautiful Moroccan designs, colours and craftsmanship.

Mosaic table

We have some wonderful new designs in mosaic tables – some in muted tones and others in vibrant colours. Apart from our regular range of sizes from small to large – we have some smaller rectangular and oval tables which proved to be so popular in our last shipment. We also have some small half-circle tables which can look great as a side table or if you have a small balcony.

Metroscope found a new supplier of hand-painted wooden furniture when we were in Marrakech earlier this year and we now have a fabulouos range of hand-painted wooden tables. There are lots of different sizes, designs and colours and each is unique.

CeramicCeramics are back, with beautifully hand-painted decorative serving tagines, bowls and platters and even some small hand-painted tiles which make good coasters and trivets or will brighten up your kitchen and bathroom.

We also have a new range of traditional lanterns – small table lanterns, large pendant lanterns in different colours as well as fabulous metal wall sconces.

Moroccan lanternOur large wrought iron mirrors and decorative screens are also back and there are plenty of tea glasses and teapots available. Tagines are selling at a phenomenal rate and there are likely to be few left by Christmas. Unfortunately most of the large hand-woven floor cushions were left behind in Morocco and we’ll make sure they come in next year’s shipment.

With the warmer weather here, Metroscope has extended our trading hours so come and see us on Saturdays between the hours of 10 to 5 and Sundays between 11 and 5. If you can’t make it over the weekend, give us a call and we’ll be happy to make a time that suits you.

Photos of our new wares will be added to the website over the next few weeks, but don’t wait, come and check them out in person.  And if you live in the country or interstate, don’t fret … we can freight many of our wares to you at reasonable prices.

We look forward to seeing you soon and showing you new treasures.
