We’ve been busy the last couple of weeks unpacking the boxes from our latest container from Morocco. There’s more to unpack, but we thought it time to share some of our latest goodies with you and to let you know about our new trading hours.
We scoured the villages on our last trip to Morocco and we’ve had them make us lots of korsi (small stools made of orange wood and date palm). You can prop yourself up on a korsi to watch the world go by or put a tray on top and use as a small table.
Also from the villages and new to Metroscope are Moroccan woven baskets with leather handles. These are often called French market baskets, but the truth be known, they are actually made in Morocco. Perfect to hang over your shoulder and stash your shopping, your beach gear or your baguette and look tres cool!
While in Marrakech we visited Marrakech’s version of Steptoe and Son and bought some beautiful large vintage hand-etched metal trays (siniya), teapots, and hammam buckets. We also have wooden bases for the siniya so you can use them as coffee tables. The siniya come in sizes ranging from 75 to 105cms.
Summer is on its way, and summer means barbecues. Craftsmen in Marrakech are very nifty when it comes to wood-turning and we have lots of cedar kebab or brochette skewers in stock. And while we’re on the topic of food, we have some beautifully hand chiseled orange wood ladles, spatulas and wooden spoons.
Some of the embroidered cushions in Morocco are simply divine! We finally managed to track some down and have them in stock, as well as a range of beautiful kilim cushions. And we have a new range of colourful leather ottomans.
We’ve replenished our stocks of:
lanterns (with some new designs)
zellige (mosaic) tables
wrought iron chairs
and lots of ceramics from Safi and Fes. We have a new range of colours and sizes in our Safi ceramics and we’re still unpacking those from Fes.
